Ask Me About...- we learned about how Orange Shirt Day started (see more information here) - we thought about whether it might be possible for life to exist somewhere other than on Earth - we started our Budding Artist mandala project - we learned what miras are - they help us to see and make REFLECTIONS. They also make some reds disappear. - we had our school photos taken - we started our presentations of the If I Were In Charge of the World! Our success criteria were that our VOICES should be clear and have expression, our VISUALS should be connected to the content, our ANIMATION and SOUND EFFECTS should support, not distract from our message. -we brainstormed ideas for writing - A Invention for School, things that are important to us - we learned how constellations seem to move from season to season - we started to learn about the phases of the Moon - we had our second Reading Buddies session with Ms. Zinken's class - our patrollers have been trained for the new year. - Scholastic - Thurs. - PD Day - Friday (no school) - order school photos by October 10 Ask Me About ...- our Superhero challenges from our Belfasty Day - we compared the mood created when we listened to a song to when we heard the song and watched images together. This led us to considering how we are presenting our "If I Were In Charge of the World" poems. Students developed targets which they can refer to in their Google Drive. - we began a "squares" math problem in groups, using the criteria we had developed for how to work together in groups. Students recognized the power of having guidelines for group work. - we learned how the Earth revolves and rotates. - we watched a Ted Talk by an scientist who is searching for near Earth asteroids so they can nudge them out of the way if they are on a path for Earth. - Mark from Mad Science showed us some amazing science concepts. Upcoming...Over the next few weeks we will be: - exploring movement of constellations in the sky - CIRCUMPOLAR CONSTELLATIONS - learning about objects in the sky that EMIT and REFLECT light - learning about the PHASES OF THE MOON - continuing to explore TRANSLATIONS, ROTATIONS, and REFLECTIONS. - investigating First Nations connections to the land - learning the significance of Orange Shirt Day Dates to remember...Monday - Patrol meeting at lunch (after eating)

Ask me about... This week we focused on growth and fixed mindsets and how our brains grow when we make mistakes. We watched a video identifying Four Key Messages about How to Learn Math. Teachers all took an amazing online course from Jo Boaler (in the video) this summer!
