June 19- Social Studies Ask me about...French - We were working on our French zoos where we wrote down the names of our animals and translated the names into French. This task is homework if it is incomplete. Science - We were working on a four stage life cycle of one organism and one three stage life cycle of a wetland organism. We had a wetlands test on Thursday. Social - We are continuing to work on our Wampum belts and the deadline is next week. Math - We have continued to work with Input/Output machines, this time with two-step rules. We found Least Common Multiples and practiced finding factors of numbers. We played a factor game, which can be found on our links page. We also completed an assessment where we showed our problem solving skills and our mathematical reasoning. Art/Math - Our James Rizzi buildings are getting close to being finshed. Gym - We have been doing circuits and "Just Dance" to improve our cardio. We also played Bocce Ball outside. - Tuesday - Weaselhead field trips due - Patrol Picnic forms were handed out - due Thursday Ask Me About...- We had our grade team talent show and all of the 5/6s entries are going to perform in our whole school Talent Show on Thursday afternoon at 1:00. - We started a new novel, Zorgamazoo. It is a fantasy written in rhyme. - Math - we are practicing our computation skills in math and are also visualizing patterns. We are learning to write pattern rules and to determine functions (Input/Output Machines) - Writing - We all wrote stories and newspaper articles, to show our growth from the beginning of the year. The grade 6 PATs were completed and sent off to Edmonton for final marking. - Science - We completed our mural writing and have been investigating interactions. - Math/Art - we are continuing to paint our James Rizzi buildings and are beginning to make a city scene to put them in. - Talent Show - Thurs. May 24 Ask me about....Marsh Madness - At Ralph Klein Park we found many interesting invertebrates, including leeches and side swimmers when we pond dipped. Some of us also saw water boatmen and water striders. Writing - Our Grade 6s wrote their Language Arts Writing PAT story and news article, and the Grade 5s, also wrote a news article and story. We were all able to show how much we have grown in our writing this year. Math - We started to create growing patterns that we are showing visually and trying to explain in words. We are telling what happens for each case so that we can easily find out what would happen for the 10th? 20th? 100th? x? case. We are solving some angle problems during our daily math time also. Science - we are almost finished our wetland writing. Social - We are learning about collective identity and how it is shown through wampum belts. Art/Math - we continued to paint/colour our James Rizzi buildings and those of us who are finished are starting to design the city grid that they will be placed on. Granted - we finally finished. Sam got a home, Kasarah got her bike and Ophelia got probation but she also was able to make both wishes happen. Art - we are continuing to work on our Zentangles. May 17 Non-instructional Day - Fri.May 18 Ask Me About...- Art/Math - we are making buildings in the style of James Rizzi's Happy House in Germany. We will be measuring the volume and are using congruent shapes in the design of our buildings. - We have been working on problems in our Daily Math time - we doubled the volume of a rectangular solid, found congruent shapes, and worked to determine which operation would help us to solve a problem. - Social Studies - Iroquois second info-graphics for our nations - Science - wrting - main idea sentence starters, leads - Math - We learned to measure angles using a protractor, to classify triangles as scalene, equilateral, isosceles (Check out the games for practice in our links) and learned how to find the measure of angles in a straight line and a triangle when given the measure of other angles. - We revised our Quest stories for dialogue and paragraphs and handed them in. - Literacy - the grade 5s are writing an Earth Day personal response using information gathered from more than one source. We have been using the Expository Pillar strategy for organizing our thinking and are using main idea sentence starters to write the middle paragraphs. Next week we will look at introductions with strong leads and conclusions that summarize our main idea. Grade 6s have revisited some planning techniques and organizational strategies for writing news articles in preparation for our Writing PAT next Thursday. - Gym - we have been learning to play flag football with Mr. Arron. - Granted - is getting repetitive; Ophelia still hasn't granted the wish.
